Frequently Asked Questions
Will a hearing aid restore my hearing to normal?
While hearing aids can't fully restore normal hearing, they can help immensely. At our clinic, we support you as you adapt to your hearing aids.
How can find out if I need a hearing aid?
The best way to find out if you need a hearing aid is to have your hearing tested by a hearing healthcare professional. A thorough hearing test will take approximately an hour of your time during which you will most likely be asked to provide your health history, undergo a series of hearing assessments and discuss your lifestyle and expectations for better hearing. Afterward, a hearing healthcare professional will discuss the results of your test with you and, if it’s determined that your hearing can benefit from amplification, discuss next steps. If your hearing has changed recently or you suspect you have hearing loss, make an appointment to see a hearing healthcare professional in your community as soon as possible. There’s a lot to hear in this world – laughing children, music, the sound of someone you love calling your name – and hearing aids may be able to help you hear them./a>

How often should I have my hearing tested?
If you are over 50 we recommend you check your ears every 2 years.
If you are under 50 we recommend you check your ears every 10 years.
The sooner a hearing problem is detected, the better it can be treated.
If you already own a hearing aid, they should also be checked and cleaned once a year to keep them working at peak performance
How long does it take to adjust to a hearing aid?
It can take several weeks to completely adjust to new hearing aids. Hearing tends to deteriorate gradually over time, so when sounds are reintroduced to the brain quickly, it can be a bit disorienting at first.
This adjustment period is essential to ensuring you receive the maximum benefit from your hearing aids, as well as counselling and rehabilitation tactics from a qualified practitioner, to help you adapt to your new hearing aids
How long do hearing aid batteries last?
This depends – the harder your hearing aid has to work to process the sound, the more power it will require. Anything from a couple of days to a week would be expected. If it is less than this, let us know. Your hearing aid may need to be repaired. Clinician will let you know the average battery drain time for your type of hearing aid batteries and hearing aids
How do I know what size hearing aid I need?
Your ideal hearing aid size depends upon your hearing loss, your ear canal size and your personal preference. The smallest hearing aid available is the Completely In the Canal (CIC) style, which fits deep into your ear canal. It’s removed by pulling a small, nearly invisible cord. The next size up is an In The Canal (ITC) hearing aid, which fits into your ear canal and is usually only visible from the side. Behind The Ear (BTE) hearing aids sit on top of your ear and go behind it.
Do I need two hearing aids?
If you have a hearing loss in both ears, it’s recommended that you wear a hearing aid in each ear. We were all born with two ears for a reason, from determining the direction of sound to boosting the volume of the sounds we hear.
